For the past nearly 3 years, the position of Backlog Deputy has been filled by Master Thomas de Castellan, OP, a former Brigantia Principal Herald and highly organized member of the Signet Office staff. While Tom will be transitioning out of his position as of East Kingdom 12th Night on January 4, 2014, we all wish him well in his ‘retirement’ (I am sure he will not stay inactive from volunteering elsewhere in the SCA for very long!), I know that he will also be leaving behind some pretty big shoes to fill. Since stepping into this role, Tom has assisted with coordination of backlog assignments caused by a variety of reasons, and has further been very proactive in helping make sure awaiting recipients are delivered the scrolls they are due.
As this position involves working in tandem with the Tyger Clerk of the Signet, scribes, and populace of the East, applicants are required to be highly organized, have good people skills and be flexible, have a valid SCA membership through 2014, and be knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets (incl. Google docs). Familiarity with the Policies of the Tyger Clerk of the Signet and the East Kingdom Scribes Handbook is encouraged; it is not required that the Backlog Deputy be a scribe (although it is helpful). Experience as a former Backlog Deputy will be considered, but this is not required – Tom will be providing direct training for his successor.
